WHAT I’D LIKE TO BE

Na(Glo)PoWriMo

Day 7

7 April 2019

Today, we’d like to challenge you to write a poem of gifts and joy. What would you give yourself, if you could have anything? What would you give someone else?

I’d like to be

my love’s amber pendant

with each step knock on her heart

till it sings its song to the world

A stream

drunk on melting snow

the sound of laughter

whichever way the dice falls

A turtle

shield of wisdom’s ease

moss growing on its domed back

during winter’s sleep

A falcon

in free flight

clear-eyed, soaring

above trouble and turmoil

A fish

jumping for joy

lifted on instant’s wings

beyond its assigned world

An orchid

content to bloom

in no-man’s-land

exhale its vanilla perfume

A drop

a tear, deliver from sadness

dew in a violet’s heart

quench a bumblebee’s thirst

A feather

on a duck’s back

let what disturbs slide off

plump a dream-time pillow

A magnet

in love

pull in nails, shrapnel

turn it into gold of forgiveness
