Split Heart

Na(Glo)PoWriMo

Day 3

SPLIT HEART

Heart longs to belong

slips on juicy red mango slice

left over from sumptuous party

where skyscrapers’ effervescent

wedding cake décor oblivious

to Wilma’s last hurricane feast

straddles thin land sliced through

indented encircled by the sea

hideaway of shadowy sharks

disloyal mirror of hyperbole splendor

dazzles with fearsome beauty—

heart’s overwhelmed no fit

heart still yearns to find its match

dips into bubbling cheese

cools off by quiet mountains

tightly knit forests reliable firs

solo oaks on safely monotonous meadows

where herds of brown cattle graze

punctually milked whether sun or rain

morning haze or fog at dusk

glued to timely ringing of bells

dazed with predictable sameness

heart dozes too sleepy to chime—

split as to where it belongs
