Seven Haikus

Day Nineteen
On April 19, 2018
Happy 19th day of Na/GloPoWriMo, everyone!

Our (optional) prompt for the day takes it cue from Brady’s suggestion that erasure/word banks can allow for compelling repetitive effects. Today we challenge you to write a paragraph that briefly recounts a story, describes the scene outside your window, or even gives directions from your house to the grocery store. Now try erasing words from this paragraph to create a poem or, alternatively, use the words of your paragraph to build a new poem.
Happy writing!

Seven Haikus

girl’s in love with owls
Athena’s myth night’s wisdom
spark-eyed feather ball

walk past Notre Dame
Lausanne’s night ablaze with lights
dreaming of wholeness

listen talk wonder
green light for zebra crossing
free to go or stay

dinner pig’s trotters
or spinach asparagus
evening’s tough choices

what wares to offer?
quick take-away sandwiches
long free-verse poems

blue sky or raindrops
wonder of variety
sky’s moody moments

drive in night’s darkness
white lines amidst lake mountains
determined twin lights
